St Leger
The St Leger is a Group 1 race run over one mile and six furlongs, open to colts and fillies aged three, and is scheduled to take place at Doncaster in September. It is the final of Britain’s five classic races, and the final leg of the Flat Triple Crown which starts with the 2000 Guineas and the Derby for colts, and the 1000 Guineas and the Oaks for fillies.
Having been established in 1776, the St Leger is the oldest of the five classics. The last Triple Crown contender was Camelot, who finished second to Encke at Doncaster in 2012, and the most recent winner was Nijinsky all the way back in 1970.
