Epsom Derby

The Derby is a Group 1 race run over a mile and a half at Epsom on the first Saturday in June, and is often referred to as the ‘Blue Riband’ of Flat racing. It is seen as the most prestigious of the five Classics, especially important when it comes to the breeding of racehorses, and is open to three-year-old colts and fillies.

The name ‘Derby’ has become synonymous with races all over the world, the most famous perhaps the Kentucky Derby in America, but the Derby at Epsom is the original, first run in 1780.
